Badan Nasional Pengelola Perbatasan Indonesia menjadi tulang punggung menjaga keamanan dan pengawasan di perbatasan. BNPP juga bertugas memberdayakan masyarakat Indonesia yang hidup dan tinggal di area perbatasan khususnya dalam hal kesejahteraan.

Dalam dialog dengan GPR TV, Plt Deputi Pengelolaan Batas Negara wilayah laut dan Udara BNPP/ Siti Metrianda Akuan/ mengatakan 10 tahun terakhir BNPP aktif memperkuat kerja sama dengan instansi terkait/ baik di level nasional maupun internasional// kerjasama ini merupakan bagian dari mengatasi ragam tantangan yang muncul di perbatasan//

Di satu sisi/ kehadiran PLBN juga memberikan manfaat bagi masyarakat sekitar/ yakni peningkatan pelayanan masyarakat/ potensi pertumbuhan sentra ekonomi baru dan menumbuhkan rasa nasionalisme//

Terhitung dari 2015 sampai 2024 sudah terbangun 15 pos lintas batas negara, terbagi dari tujuh PLBN dibangun di 2015-2019 dan delapan PLBN dibangun 2020-2024 dengan total anggaran sebesar Rp1,3 triliun rupiah.
